Her handkerchief, moist from the tears in the night,
Rests on the pillow beside her
She thinks there's a letter that she maybe should write
But she can't let him know how she cried.
It seems that her evenings all end up this way
And she knows things will never be right.
Words, like a shooting star, soon fade away,
Forgotten with dreams in the night.

A new day is dawning, she stares through the window
And tries to forget all that's happened before.
But she knows that the new day will bring a new heartache
With promises broken once more.

All alone in the darkness while others are sleeping

But she remembers the promises he won't be keeping
